Montessori Course, 1939, Adyar

Maria Montessori was invited by the Theosophical Society to give a the first Montessori training course in India. The course was given in the Theosophical compound of Adyar, Madras (Chennai). As there was no premise large enough to accommodate the students, a village of palm leaf huts was built, a large one serving as the lecture hall. A platform of stone flags was built to give Maria Montessori a table and chair. Mario Montessori translated the lectures. The course was held from 14 November 1939 to 31 January 1940.
