Welcome to the AMI Montessori Digital Library

The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) was founded by Maria Montessori in 1929 in order to continue her work and ensure the Montessori approach remained relevant for future generations. To this end, the AMI Montessori Digital Library has been established to house AMI's archival, digital, institutional, research and special collections, including the entire collection of the AMI Journal and The NAMTA Journal. Digital objects, articles and stories will illuminate the life and work of Maria Montessori and the history of the Montessori movement.

Explore our Audio Visual Archives

The Maria Montessori Archives include an extensive library of photographs, documenting Maria Montessori's life and work. We also feature a selection of videos and audio fragments, limited only because of the modest use of these media during Maria Montessori's lifetime, although she fully realised their importance and potential.

The Power of the Written Word

Montessori's books and writings leave a powerful legacy that continues to enrich educational research and practice globally. In addition to her many books, there is a rich archive of writings, correspondence, newspaper clippings and documents that will be shared through our archives.

“The work of humanity that always loves more, knows more and serves more, that penetrates more and more into details in order to become more and more interested, can be translated in the three words above—love, know and serve. This is the basis upon which human work ought to be founded.”
