Child on the Sea of Life Brooch
In the 1920s and 1930s Maria Montessori designed a brooch that her graduates could buy via the material manufacturers Philip & Tacey: a beautiful brooch in two versions: one in silver and one which added two hues of blue. One to symbolise the waves of the sea, in the lighter blue version we see the signature of Maria Montessori herself.
The illustration for two of AMI's Season's Greetings cards used the "Child on the Sea of Life" drawing, which was made anew, based on historical copies available.
