Jean Miller Donates Collection to the AMI Montessori Digital Library

Dr Jean Miller, AMI 6–12 Trainer, has donated her extensive collection of Montessori papers and archival records to AMI to be included in the AMI Montessori Digital Library.

Jean’s long career has spanned more than 40 years.  She trained for the AMI 6–12 Diploma in Bergamo, Italy, then the AMI 3–6 Diploma in Cleveland, USA and in 1981 wrote her doctoral dissertation titled “The Montessori Music Curriculum for Children Up to the Age of Six". She has worked with children in both private and public Montessori schools, given lectures and workshops throughout the world and is an AMI certified consultant, an AMI examiner, and Elementary (6–12) teacher trainer. She has conducted AMI Elementary courses in the USA, Canada, Australia and India.  In addition, she has been the music lecturer at affiliated AMI training centres in both North America and Europe.

As a result of this distinguished career, Jean has been part of several key developments in many countries and kept papers, photos and documents on Montessori works throughout this time. She worked very closely with Mario M. Montessori on music, and has particularly been key in the development of Montessori music materials, a gift to Montessorians around the world.

Recently, AMI Board member Tricia Miller assisted Jean and her son Eric in sorting through boxes and identify historically relevant documents, and said that "Working with Eric was a joy. We went through many boxes and unearthed lots of memories for him and for Jean". Memories that can now also live within the greater Montessori community as invaluable Montessori history and knowledge that can be shared. Nineteen boxes of archives have been donated; we look forward to showcasing the contents as part of the AMI Montessori Digital Library.
